Beer Review – Saint Arnold Summer Pils

  • Name: Summer Pils
  • Brewery: St Arnold Brewing Company
  • Style: Pilsner
  • Origin: Texas
  • ABV: 4.9%

And here we are. The final full review of the six-beer competition that was Battle of the Beers – Summer Brews. This one is very much the traditional summer-style pilsner beer. This is in no way a bad thing. Light, crisp and refreshing pilsner style beer can be a God-send on a 100+ degree summer day in Texas.

Saint Arnold Summer Pils is a definite contender for craziest design. Something about that zany pattern just gets me in a drinking mood. The beer presents a transparent, light straw colored body. It is highly carbonated and built a big, foamy head.

Aroma wise, it is light as one would expect. No particularly strong smells come through, but faint malty tones are present. It has an incredibly light mouthfeel which lends itself to a very refreshing drinking experience.

As far as flavor is concerned, Saint Arnold Summer Pils tastes exactly as you would expect. It has a slight malty flavor with little to no bitterness. If you have tried St Arnold 5 O’Clock Pils, this is almost the same experience, but with even less bitterness. 5 O’Clock Pils is by no means a bitter beer, so for some this will be a let down. But firmly believing every beer has its place, I see no issue in this.

Honestly, Summer Pils is like a Bud Light, but better in every way. It’s very light and nonthreatening, but it has a much better flavor profile. It’s what Bud Light probably wants to be when it grows up. This is a very tasty beer and I think beer drinkers of any persuasion would be hard pressed not to enjoy this. Even if a dark stout or a triple IPA is your preference, this is a great beer for a stinking hot day.

TL;DR

Saint Arnold Summer Pils is a dangerously refreshing and easy to drink beer. It’s tasty and crisp. It’s only downfall potential downfall is how easy it would be to session. I highly recommend this beer to anyone who has ever enjoyed a pilsner beer, even just a little bit.

Rating: 8.5/10
