Abita has quickly developed a place in my heart. Somewhat begrudgingly, I tried my first fruit beer a few months ago. Having seen Abita's Strawberry Lager on the shelf, and in the spirit of trying a little bit of everything, I picked a bottle up and began anticipating disappointment. If you've read the review, you will know that I was very pleasantly surprised. So much so, that I have tried numerous fruit beers in a short few months.
Beer Review – Purple Haze
On viewing Abita's list of beers, a handful excited me. One of those was their perennial Purple Haze. Billed as a raspberry infused lager that pairs well with desserts, I was intrigued and new I would have to try it. I hoped that Purple Haze the beer would be as great as Jimmy Hendrix' classic.
Beer Review – Samuel Adams Boston Lager
Happy Fourth of July everyone! While I was not born in the U.S.A, I have called the United States my home for almost six years. In commemoration of the 241st birthday of this great nation, I decided to review an American beer today. What better beer to choose than one named after a founding father - Samuel Adams!
Beer Review – Arrogant Bastard
With its reputation preceding it, Arrogant Bastard Ale has cemented itself in the social media presence of the craft beer community. Not a single day goes by in which I am able to avoid that sassy looking demon. For that reason, when I saw Arrogant Bastard on the menu at San Antonio's Flying Saucer, I had to include it in my flight.
Beer Review – Fugli
Fugli embraces the traditional bitter hoppy-ness of an IPA but brings a unique twist to the table. In counteracting the traditional flavors with a slightly citrusy, sweet taste, Oskar Blues have developed a beer that can appeal to those (like me) who are not fans of the growing trend of bitterness.
Beer Review – The Don Jalapeño Ale
When I started out, I wasn't really sure how I felt about this beer. Whereas with some brews I know within a mouthful or two whether or not to recommend it, The Don's complexity made things difficult. I ran the full gamut of responses on this one, at times feeling highly impressed and at others questioning my grip on reality.
Beer Review – Sea Dog Wild Blueberry Wheat Ale
I was walking through my local Total Wine and More collecting beer to drink and review and the cartoony dog on a blue can caught my eye. I was intrigued and had to pick it up. Immediately, the image of the can blew up on my Instagram account. Seemingly this can was stealing everyone's attention (kudos to whoever designed this) and so I had to see if the brew could live up to the hype.
Beer Review – Shiner Light Blonde
While many avid beer drinkers will likely be disappointed and underwhelmed, Shiner Light Blonde is a pleasant step up on many of its direct competitors. With its light flavors, thin texture and high carbonation, it is very refreshing while not overly interesting.
