Master of Marzen 2019 – Round 2 Preview

And then there were 16. It's been a big month of Oktoberfest brews and lots of tough decision to halve the initial field of 32. There's been a number of tremendous brews and a few who were unlucky to lose out in the first round. The support I have received from the breweries who elected... Continue Reading →

Beer Review – Raspberry AF

You know when a product has the perfect name to describe it? It's a wonderful feeling. In the case of Saint Arnold's Raspberry AF, the name is astute, concise and incredibly descriptive. It leaves little to the imagination, and then the product lets your imagination run wild. In the interest of keeping readers reading, I generally like to burry the lead. In this case, I'm gonna come right out and say it. This beer is magical.

Beer Review – Saint Arnold Lawnmower

If you live in, or have visited, the State of Texas and like beer, odds are you have come across Saint Arnold Brewing Company. Based out of Houston, Saint Arnold has developed a wonderful reputation for brewing awesome beer. In the past few weeks, I had tried their 5 O'Clock Pils and Summer Pils. Time and again, I received advice to try out their Lawnmower Kolsh, so when I saw a bottle of it at my local H-E-B I had to pick it up.

Beer Review – Pliny the Elder

This is a beer that, seemingly, needs no introduction. Pliny the Elder has captivated the craft community for quite some time. Brewed by Russian River, based of of California, Pliny has developed a reputation for punching you in the mouth with 100 IBU of hops, but doing it in a lovable, classy way. With 174,000 reviews ratings on Untappd, Pliny has managed to maintain an obscenely high 4.55/5. So when I was presented an opportunity to do a beer trade for a couple bottles, I jumped at the chance.

Beer Review – Saint Arnold Summer Pils

And here we are. The final full review of the six-beer competition that was Battle of the Beers - Summer Brews. This one is very much the traditional summer-style pilsner beer. This is in no way a bad thing. Light, crisp and refreshing pilsner style beer can be a God-send on a 100+ degree summer day in Texas.

Beer Review – Devil’s Backbone

Having now lived in the great state of Texas for a little over six years, Real Ale Brewing has cemented itself as one of my favorite breweries. From the first time I tried their Fireman's Four, I have been pleasantly surprised by each of their beers. Devil's Backbone, a tripel, is quite possibly the best of a great cast of beers from this Blanco based brewery.
